Dom Pedro V Theatre
This neoclassical theatre stands on St Augustine’s Square in the Macau Peninsula’s historic centre. Its portico is easy to appreciate from outside; interior access needs checking.
The theatre gives St Augustine’s Square a distinct nineteenth-century civic landmark among nearby churches and streets. Built in 1860, it gained its formal façade later. Even a short exterior stop helps explain how Portuguese cultural institutions shaped this part of the historic centre.
What to look for
A neoclassical portico faces St Augustine’s Square.
The theatre’s façade was added after the original 1860 building.
Useful to know
Treat the exterior as the reliable stop and check the official page before planning to enter.
Combine the square with nearby historic-centre streets rather than making a separate journey for an uncertain interior.
