From the Malta World / Itineraries

Birgu and the Three Cities

Explore the Inquisitor Palace and Fort St Angelo before following the waterfront toward Senglea, comparing intimate old streets with the wider geography of the Grand Harbour.

Birgu and the Three Cities

Why go

Start inside Birgu at the Inquisitor Palace, where domestic rooms and institutional history give the old town a different perspective from Valletta’s grander buildings. Continue through Birgu’s streets toward Fort St Angelo at the harbour tip. Leave time to understand the fort rather than treating it as a photo stop. Finish with an outdoor exploration of Cottonera, using Senglea’s waterfront as a change of viewpoint across the same harbour. The final section involves a walk around the dock or a separate transfer, so shorten it if the two interiors already fill your day.
