Why go
Begin in Mdina while you have energy for its narrow streets and bastion outlooks, then visit St Paul’s Cathedral to read the city’s religious architecture at a closer scale. Walk toward Rabat through the gate and use the Domvs Romana for a much earlier layer of domestic life. Continue to St Paul’s Catacombs for the underground burial landscape outside the ancient city. Buskett Gardens makes an optional outdoor finish with a separate transfer. This route combines several interiors, so confirm their access and give up the garden extension before cutting the archaeological visits short.

Domvs Romana
Roman mosaics survive beneath a museum on the boundary of Mdina and Rabat. The compact site suits visitors who want domestic archaeology alongside the area's churches and fortifications.

St Paul's Catacombs
Rabat's underground cemetery reveals burial customs from late Roman and early Christian Malta. The experience centres on rock-cut galleries and tombs rather than a single decorated chamber.

Buskett Gardens
Woodland in the Wied il-Luq valley offers a shaded contrast to Malta's open limestone coast. Paths and fruit-tree groves make the landscape itself the main attraction.
