Rideau Canal
The Rideau Canal reaches the Ottawa River through a flight of historic locks beside Parliament Hill. Its role changes with the season, from navigation and paths to winter skating when conditions permit.
At the Ottawa Locks, the stepped descent turns a long inland waterway into a compact, observable feat of engineering. Watching a boat move through the chambers, when navigation is active, turns the engineering sequence into a lived process; the same location works as a historic exterior in other seasons.
