Esplanade
Esplanade is an open central park framed by the cathedral, art museum and Academy of Art. It works best as a short connecting walk with several architectural views.
The park’s value lies in its setting: major cultural buildings face the same green space, so a crossing can orient a museum day. Pause to compare their forms before choosing which interior to enter. It is less secluded than Riga’s canal parks but very useful for understanding this civic cluster.
What to look for
Tree-lined paths cross the open central park.
The cathedral stands beside the park and comes into view from its paths.
Useful to know
Use the park to connect the art museum and cathedral.
Cross in daylight for clearer views of the surrounding buildings.
