Why go
The Hofvijver is valuable less as a destination in isolation than as a visual frame for neighbouring institutions. From its quays, the Binnenhof's varied roofs, the Mauritshuis and the prime minister's Torentje become one readable ensemble. The walk therefore supplies orientation before a museum or government-quarter visit.
What to look for
- The Mauritshuis and Binnenhof line the pond's southern edge.
- A planted island with a flagpole sits near the centre of the water.
- The Torentje, the prime minister's small tower, directly adjoins the pond.
Useful to know
- Walk the Lange Vijverberg bank for the clearest overview across the water.
- Use the pond as the outdoor link between the Mauritshuis, Binnenhof and Buitenhof.
