Why go
Few places make the long continuity of Dutch government so visible. Parliament met here from 1446, and the ensemble ranges from the Ridderzaal to the Torentje, the Stadtholder's Gate and later government buildings. Even from outside, the layered fabric explains its enduring national importance.
What to look for
- The Ridderzaal, or Hall of Knights, anchors the historic court.
- The Torentje beside the Mauritshuis became the prime minister's office in 1982.
- A gilded neo-Gothic fountain stands within the complex.
Useful to know
- Check current access before visiting because routes through the complex may change.
- View the ensemble from Hofvijver as well as from the surrounding streets.
