Southern Taiwan
Southern Taiwan brings together older city history, a major harbor and warmer coastal landscapes. Tainan and Kaohsiung offer contrasting urban starting points.
Tainan’s long history and Kaohsiung’s harbor offer contrasting urban starting points. Farther south, coastal landscapes invite a slower day outside the cities. The regional grouping is most useful for choosing among history, a port-city visit and seascape, rather than treating them as one continuous route.
Useful to know
Give Tainan and Kaohsiung separate city time if both matter to the trip.
Keep coastal plans flexible around heat, rain and exposed walking.

Times are planning estimates. Unknown visit durations start at an editable 30 minutes; access is checked separately.
Tainan is Taiwan’s old capital and a strong choice for temple culture and early maritime history. Its older sites reward time beyond a single fort stop.
Kaohsiung is southern Taiwan’s major port city, with a large urban area and a strong harbor identity. It suits a city day with room for the waterfront.
Pingtung stretches across Taiwan’s southern plains to the Hengchun Peninsula and Kenting. It is a regional choice for coast and landscape, not one compact stop.
