Why go
This mostly outdoor walk is for visitors who enjoy reading a city through its entrances and edges. Begin at Puerta de Alfonso VI and look at the brickwork of Santiago del Arrabal before following the western side of the old town. Paseo de Recaredo gives the route room to breathe and connects naturally with Cambrón Gate. Continue down to San Martín Bridge for a final view of the Tagus and Toledo’s steep skyline. The walking is the main activity, and slopes matter more than the map’s short distances suggest. Pick a fair weather day, bring water, and leave time to pause at the viewpoints along the way.
