The Tagus widens here, giving the bridge a more expansive rhythm than Puente de Alcántara. Its high central arch and towers recall the rebuilding associated with Archbishop Pedro Tenorio around 1390. Come for the crossing itself and the changing view of Toledo as you move away from its walls.
What to look for
Five pointed arches cross this wider stretch of the Tagus.
Fortified towers mark both ends of the bridge.
The western crossing opens a view back toward Toledo.
Useful to know
Combine it with the western Jewish Quarter rather than the eastern Alcántara crossing.
Allow time to turn back for the city view from the far side of the river.
