Why go
Choose this walk if the city’s older layers interest you more than a checklist of famous facades. The gate and mosque set the scene above ground, while the Caves of Hercules and Roman Baths shift attention to remains hidden in the street grid. Those four stops form the core walk. If the Museum of Visigothic Councils and Culture is admitting visitors, continue there for another chapter; its interior access is uncertain, so do not plan the day around it. All stops lie within the historic core, but the streets rise and fall sharply, so keep the walking pace relaxed. Check the underground sites’ current visiting arrangements before setting out. Take a meal break after the Roman Baths.
