Caves of Hercules
The Caves of Hercules preserve Roman waterworks under Toledo’s later buildings. Visit for the striking contrast between an underground utility space and the city above it.
The name suggests legend, but the most useful thing here is the surviving infrastructure. Vaults and heavy masonry reveal how Roman builders managed water at this spot, while the later history of the site shows how Toledo kept reusing the same ground. The short descent gives a clear physical sense of that layered city.
