Cenizal Baths
Below the Colegio de Infantes, Cenizal Baths preserve part of an Islamic hammam. The underground rooms offer a direct encounter with Toledo’s medieval bathing culture.
The surviving bath architecture brings ordinary urban life into focus. A hammam was built around heat, water and movement between rooms, a different story from the courts and churches above ground. Seeing these remains beneath a later institution also makes the city’s habit of building over earlier spaces immediately clear.
