Leprosy Museum
The Leprosy Museum occupies St George’s former hospital, where historic buildings frame Bergen’s leprosy history. It is a close, sometimes difficult encounter with medical and social history.
Why go
The surviving hospital complex gives the subject a human scale that a conventional collection might not. Bergen’s role in leprosy research and care becomes easier to understand when seen in the rooms and grounds associated with patients. This is distinct from the nearby cathedral despite their shared neighborhood: one concerns religious and urban architecture, the other illness, care and social exclusion.
