Basilique Saint-Michel de Bordeaux
This Gothic basilica anchors the Saint-Michel neighborhood beside a separate, soaring bell tower. Its exterior alone gives a strong sense of the area’s medieval scale.
The basilica was built over several centuries, and its pointed stonework is best understood alongside the detached Flèche Saint-Michel on the square. If the church is open to visitors, its nave and side chapels add a quieter, more detailed view of the building. The tower has separate arrangements, so the two should not be assumed to form one visit.
What to look for
The basilica has a three-aisled Gothic interior.
Side chapels line the nave.
The detached Flèche Saint-Michel stands apart from the church.
Useful to know
Walk around the square to compare the basilica with its separate tower.
Check current church visiting arrangements before relying on an interior stop.
