Palais Rohan
Built as an archbishop’s palace, Palais Rohan now serves Bordeaux’s city government. Its courtyard façade is visible on a central walk; historic rooms require a scheduled visit.
The sober courtyard, portico and sculpted pediment show a different side of Bordeaux’s eighteenth-century grandeur from the riverfront squares. Inside, a guided visit can add the stone staircase, old salons and council room. The changing civic uses of the building give that architectural contrast a reason to matter.
