Place du Parlement
This Saint-Pierre square brings eighteenth-century facades and a later fountain into one view. It is a useful pause for reading Bordeaux's historic streetscape.
Stand back from the center and the surrounding buildings reveal a coherent rhythm of bays, balconies and carved details. The square was laid out in the eighteenth century, while its neo-Gothic fountain arrived in 1865. That contrast makes it a good place to notice how Bordeaux's public spaces accumulated layers rather than appearing all at once.
What to look for
A continuous setting of eighteenth-century stone facades.
Wrought-iron balconies and carved details around the square.
The nineteenth-century fountain at the center.
Useful to know
Cross the square slowly enough to compare the fountain with the older facades.
Combine it with nearby Place de la Bourse and the Saint-Pierre streets.
