Mosque of Amr ibn al-As
In Fustat, this mosque marks the site of Egypt’s first Islamic capital. Its present arcades reflect later rebuilding rather than an untouched seventh-century building.
The mosque gives Old Cairo an Islamic anchor alongside its Coptic and Jewish sites. Walk the arcades to see a living place of worship whose story began soon after Fustat’s founding. Visits should respect prayer times and dress customs; confirm tourist access before relying on an interior stop.
