Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma
Kiasma is the Finnish National Gallery’s contemporary-art museum on Mannerheimintie, housed in Steven Holl’s 1993–98 building and complemented by the performance programme of Kiasma Theatre.
Why go
The museum pairs changing contemporary-art exhibitions with architecture built around crossings and spatial shifts. Its name derives from “chiasma,” a clue to Steven Holl’s design concept; following the interior’s curves and intersecting routes is part of understanding the building as well as the art.
What to look for
Changing exhibitions draw on and extend the Finnish National Gallery’s contemporary-art collection.
Steven Holl’s architecture develops the idea of intersecting forms implied by the name Kiasma.
Kiasma Theatre adds live performance to the museum programme.
