Peace Bell

Visitors can ring this large 1964 bell beneath a domed belfry beside a pond. Its borderless world map is a deliberate peace symbol.

Peace Bell

Why go

Masahiko Katori cast the bell, and its relief replaces national boundaries with one world. Ringing it is a participatory act different from observing a statue or plaque. Notice the pond and structure as well as the sound; the museum’s site guide distinguishes this bell from others used for ceremonies.
