From Jemaa el-Fna to the Kasbah

Start at Jemaa el-Fna, use the Koutoubia as a landmark, then move south through Bab Agnaou to the Saadian Tombs. Return through the souks; Menara is an optional detour.

From Jemaa el-Fna to the Kasbah

Why go

This route connects Marrakech’s great square with the Almohad mosque and southern Kasbah gates. It suits a first city day built around walking and a handful of architectural stops. Bab Ksiba adds a quick comparison with Bab Agnaou, while Menara’s distance makes it optional rather than an obligatory part of the medina circuit. Along the way, the open square, monumental minaret and quieter royal quarter show how public life and dynastic history occupy different parts of the old city. The return through the souks brings the route back to everyday commerce.
