Bab Agnaou

Bab Agnaou is a monumental gate into the Kasbah quarter, close to the Saadian Tombs. Its carved stone face rewards a short stop while crossing between the southern medina and palace district.

Bab Agnaou

Why go

The gate makes the old city wall feel like a designed threshold rather than a simple barrier. Its broad horseshoe opening sits inside layered carved bands, a clear example of Almohad monumental design. Pair it with the Kasbah Mosque and Saadian Tombs to see how this southern precinct combined royal, religious and funerary functions.

What to look for

  • Layered stone carving surrounds the horseshoe opening.
  • The gate marks entry into the historic Kasbah quarter.

Useful to know

  • Combine the exterior stop with the nearby tombs and Kasbah Mosque.
