The full story
Skansen preserves an old fortification embankment and early wooden buildings at the north edge of Tromsø's centre. A short exterior walk reveals layers of city history.
The fort embankment is thought to date from between 1000 and 1200, while a house built around 1789–1793 belongs to the city’s earliest documented centre buildings. Inspect the site outdoors, then pair it with the nearby Polar Museum to connect these different periods of Arctic history.
