From the Barcelona World / Areas

Passeig de Colom

This broad, palm-lined avenue follows the old port edge from the Columbus Monument toward the former Central Post Office. Walk it as a link between the Gothic Quarter and Port Vell.

Passeig de Colom

Why go

The avenue traces a changed shoreline: it was laid out after the former sea wall came down in the late nineteenth century. That makes it a useful way to notice where the historic city once faced the harbor. The route is short enough to absorb on foot.

What to look for

  • Use the Columbus Monument to orient the western end.
  • Notice the palm-lined width of the former seafront avenue.
  • Look for the former Central Post Office toward the eastern end.

Useful to know

  • Use the avenue to connect La Rambla with Port Vell on foot.
  • Cross toward the waterfront when you want closer harbor views.
