Why go
Lluís Domènech i Montaner designed the hall for the Orfeó Català choral society. Its decoration is part of the architecture rather than a separate display: the Concert Hall draws eye and ear toward a single shared space. A guided visit helps you see the room and Sala Lluís Millet; a concert gives a different reason to linger.
What to look for
- The Concert Hall’s stained glass and sculptural decoration.
- Mosaics integrated into the hall’s surfaces.
- Sala Lluís Millet on the visitor route.
The full story
The Orfeó Català, a choral society linked to Catalonia’s cultural revival, commissioned Lluís Domènech i Montaner to build its concert hall in the early twentieth century. That origin helps explain why the building presents music as a public and shared experience. Mosaics, stained glass and sculpture fill the Concert Hall rather than being isolated as decorative objects. Look around the room from more than one position: the ceiling and surfaces work together, drawing attention back to the performers’ space. The hall remains in use, so a concert and a daytime visit reveal different sides of it. The first gives you its acoustics and atmosphere; the second gives time to read the visual detail. Sala Lluís Millet adds another space to the architectural visit.
