Kamppi Helsinki
Kamppi Helsinki combines a six-level shopping centre with metro, local-bus and long-distance-bus terminals in the central Kamppi district, making it both a transport interchange and a useful service stop.
Why go
Kamppi is more useful than scenic: shops, restaurants and everyday services sit directly above major underground transport links. The complex shows how the district’s redevelopment integrated retail with movement through central Helsinki, with Juhani Pallasmaa serving as the project’s principal designer.
What to look for
Underground connections bring the metro, local buses and long-distance coaches into one complex.
Six retail levels place food, shopping and services directly above the terminals.
The building is a substantial piece of the modern redevelopment of central Kamppi.
Useful to know
Treat the centre as a convenient transfer and provisioning point rather than a stand-alone architectural visit.
Individual shops and restaurants may follow different schedules from the shopping centre’s published hours.
