Why go
See it for a concentrated lesson in defensive design. Built around 1498, the circular outwork has seven turrets, thick walls and rows of embrasures; its original covered passage to St. Florian’s Gate makes the surviving pair more informative together than either monument alone.
What to look for
- A plaque recalls Marcin Oracewicz’s defense of Kraków during the Bar Confederation.
Useful to know
- Walk around the exterior before entering to understand the circular plan and its relation to the gate.
- Continue through St. Florian’s Gate to follow the Royal Road into the Old Town.
- Check museum access if you want the interior; weather or conservation work can cause changes.
