Why go
The route connects Lyon's Roman beginnings with its later civic center. Give the theatre complex and basilica priority on the hill, then use the descent to understand how Vieux Lyon, the Saône and Presqu'île align. Bellecour and Jacobins provide a flatter architectural finish. Saint-Bruno and Rue de Brest pull in different directions, so keep them optional unless you are comfortable with extra distance and another climb. Add Lugdunum museum only if you can spare a substantial indoor block.
Useful to know
- Start on Fourvière while your energy is highest.
- Choose either Lugdunum museum or the longer Presqu'île finish if time is tight.
- Wear shoes suited to slopes and ancient stone.
