Gesù Nuovo
A church whose diamond-cut stone front came from a Renaissance palace. Step inside for the sharp contrast with its richly decorated chapels.
Why go
The Jesuits converted the Sanseverino palace into a church while keeping its unusual façade. That surviving stone skin makes the building's change of purpose visible from Piazza del Gesù Nuovo. Inside, marble and frescoes replace the exterior's severe geometry; the shrine of Giuseppe Moscati adds a later devotional layer.

Useful to know
Look at the palace façade from the square before entering; the contrast is the point of the visit.
Cross the square to Santa Chiara to compare two very different religious complexes.
