Why go
Begin at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, then step into Central Park to give the collection-heavy visit a change of scale and air. From the park's south end, continue toward Carnegie Hall, where the route shifts from museum architecture and landscape to a landmark performance venue. This suits art-minded visitors who want a measured north-to-south progression with time to linger at the Met. The Meatpacking District is far enough away to work better as a separate downtown outing; add it only if the main museum-and-park plan is deliberately shortened.
