Radcliffe Square

Radcliffe Square is the open space around the circular Radcliffe Camera, bordered by Bodleian buildings and college fronts. Its cobbles and sightlines make it a strong place to read Oxford's architectural layout.

Radcliffe Square

Why go

Few Oxford spaces bring university institutions into such a compact view. Walk around the Radcliffe Camera to see how the library relates to Brasenose on the west, All Souls on the east and the Bodleian to the north. The square itself is a public outdoor space; entry to surrounding buildings is separate.

What to look for

  • The circular Radcliffe Camera stands at the centre of the square.
  • Brasenose and All Souls face the square from opposite sides.
  • Bodleian buildings close the view to the north.

Useful to know

  • Circle the Camera for different views of the neighbouring college facades.
  • Combine the square with St Mary's on the High Street or nearby college visits.
