Queen's Lane

Queen's Lane is a narrow, bending street between the High and New College Lane. Stone college walls and the St Edmund Hall entrance give it a very different scale from the High Street.

Queen's Lane

Why go

A short walk here shows how Oxford's colleges shape the streets around them. The lane turns between high walls, passing St Edmund Hall and its former church before continuing towards New College Lane. It is useful as both a quiet architectural passage and a connection between larger central sights.

What to look for

  • The lane bends between tall college walls with few windows.
  • St Edmund Hall's entrance opens from the lane.
  • The former St Peter-in-the-East church stands near the college entrance.

Useful to know

  • Enter from the High and continue around the bend towards New College Lane.
  • Pause at St Edmund Hall's entrance if you plan to visit the college.
