Håkon’s Hall

Håkon’s Hall is a large medieval royal space within Bergenhus Fortress. Entering it gives a much fuller sense of Bergen’s thirteenth-century political role than viewing the exterior.

Håkon’s Hall

Why go

The hall was built for King Håkon Håkonsson when Bergen was a royal centre. Its scale and surviving interior form make it a distinct stop inside the fortress complex. Pairing it with Rosenkrantz Tower shows two building periods and purposes, but the two should not be merged into one POI. Check whether events or maintenance affect entry on your date.

What to look for

  • Large medieval royal interior
  • Bergenhus setting
