The Hanseatic Museum and Schøtstuene
Schøtstuene brings Bergen’s Hanseatic assembly rooms and cookhouses into focus near Bryggen. It is a useful indoor counterpart to the wooden wharf, showing where merchants gathered beyond their trading buildings.
Schøtstuene shows where merchants could gather and prepare food apart from the tightly packed wooden trading buildings. Historic rooms and a medieval stone ruin beneath a glass floor add physical detail to the story you see along Bryggen. The site deepens a Bryggen walk by showing spaces used outside the merchants’ warehouses.
