Cathédrale Saint-André de Bordeaux
Bordeaux’s Gothic cathedral fills one side of Place Pey-Berland, with its bell tower standing apart. The north portal and layered stonework make the exterior worth circling.
The cathedral’s long construction history is visible in its varied Gothic fabric rather than in one uniform façade. Seek out the sculpted Royal Portal on the north side, then look across the square to the separate Tour Pey-Berland. An interior visit adds the scale of the nave and chapels when church access allows.
What to look for
The north-side Royal Portal carries sculpted scenes.
Gothic details from several building phases shape the exterior.
Tour Pey-Berland stands separately from the cathedral.
Useful to know
Walk around the north side for the Royal Portal.
Check the cathedral’s current visiting hours before planning to go inside.
