Pembroke Square

A small square just off St Aldate's brings Pembroke College's entrance and St Aldate's Church together, with a view across the street to Christ Church's Tom Tower.

Pembroke Square

Why go

Step off St Aldate's to compare three closely packed Oxford institutions without committing to an interior visit. Pembroke's entrance marks the college's edge, St Aldate's Church occupies the square, and Tom Tower anchors the view back across the main street. It is a useful short detour on a walk between Carfax and Christ Church Meadow.

What to look for

  • Pembroke College's main entrance opens onto the square.
  • St Aldate's Church stands beside the college.
  • Tom Tower is visible across St Aldate's above Christ Church's gate.

Useful to know

  • Enter from St Aldate's and return to the same street for Christ Church or the meadow.
  • View the college and church from the square unless you have confirmed interior access separately.
