Outdoor walks and façade observations. Interior admission is not included.

The full story

Johnson Square was Savannah’s first laid-out square. The Nathanael Greene monument and Christ Church frontage make it a brief but useful stop on the original city plan.

This square is the right place to start understanding Savannah’s ordered grid. The monument and church frontage give visible anchors to an otherwise abstract founding story, and the open space still serves as a civic pause near the riverfront. A short visit here adds context before walking the later squares along Bull Street.

Use the central monument and surrounding frontage to read the square as part of the original town plan.
