Ellis Square

Ellis Square is a restored urban plaza beside City Market, with an interactive fountain and Johnny Mercer statue. It offers a playful public-space stop rather than another shaded garden square.

Ellis Square

Why go

The plaza shows a newer chapter of Savannah’s square system: a surface parking structure was removed and public space returned. The fountain, seating and Mercer statue make it useful for a pause, particularly with children or between market stops. Its hardscape and open feel are a clear contrast with the older tree-filled squares nearby.

What to look for

  • Interactive fountain
  • Johnny Mercer statue
  • Open plaza

Useful to know

  • Use the square as a rest or meeting point when visiting City Market; the fountain gives children room to pause.
