Els Quatre Gats occupies the ground floor of Casa Martí, a Modernista building in the old city. Stop for the surviving arches and woodwork, with a meal or drink only if the current restaurant offering suits you.
Why go
Josep Puig i Cadafalch designed the setting that became a gathering place for Barcelona’s artistic circles. Seeing the original architectural elements makes the café history tangible, even if you have little interest in dining. It pairs well with the nearby Palau de la Música Catalana for two very different Modernista interiors.
