Bergen Cathedral
The cathedral near the station carries traces of several rebuilding periods. Visit for Bergen’s religious history and the changing form of a church whose origins reach the twelfth century.
The present cathedral is not a frozen medieval building: fire damage and later work changed its appearance repeatedly. That layered history makes the exterior and interior more interesting to inspect than a quick photograph suggests. Its position near the Leprosy Museum also lets visitors compare two very different kinds of Bergen institution. Check the parish’s visitor access before planning an interior visit.
