John Knox House
A surviving house dating to 1470 offers a small-scale look at the Royal Mile’s older domestic architecture. Its association with John Knox is traditional rather than a certainty.
Why go
The wooden gallery and painted ceiling make this a more intimate stop than Edinburgh’s large royal buildings. The house stands in the Netherbow stretch of the Royal Mile, beside the Scottish Storytelling Centre. Its layers of decoration are the main attraction; approach the famous reformer’s connection as a reputed association.
