Mount Fortress
Mount Fortress rises above the Ruins of St. Paul’s on the Macau Peninsula. Its ramparts and gardens pair city views with a clearer sense of the historic centre’s defences.
Why go
The fort changes the viewpoint after the close detail of St. Paul’s façade. Built in the seventeenth century, it preserves cannon positions and defensive walls above the old city, while the Macao Museum occupies the hilltop site. Come for the relationship between the fort, the ruins below and the wider peninsula.
What to look for
Ramparts and cannon positions trace the defensive layout.
The hilltop opens views over the Macau Peninsula.
The Macao Museum stands within the fortress site.
Useful to know
Combine the climb with the Ruins of St. Paul’s below.
Check the museum separately if you want to go inside; its schedule differs from the fortress gardens.
