Bergenhus Fortress Museum
This museum inside the fortress interprets Bergen’s wartime resistance and women’s contributions to the armed forces. It adds twentieth-century history to a Bergenhus visit dominated elsewhere by medieval buildings.
Why go
Bergenhus contains several separately visitable sites. This museum deserves its own stop because its exhibitions address the occupation and military service, rather than the architecture of Håkon’s Hall or Rosenkrantz Tower. Seeing the displays after walking the fortress grounds helps place the later military history within the same complex. Confirm the museum’s current exhibition and opening arrangements before visiting.
