Museo Horne
A collector’s museum inside Palazzo Corsi, Museo Horne presents early Renaissance art and furnishings as a domestic ensemble rather than a survey collection.
Why go
The appeal lies in seeing paintings, sculpture, chests, chairs and devotional objects share the rooms of a Renaissance palace. Herbert Percy Horne bought the building in 1911 for his collection, then left both palace and works to form a museum.
What to look for
Palazzo Corsi was rebuilt around 1495–1502 and remains part of the display.
Fourteenth- and 15th-century paintings sit beside sculpture and household furnishings.
Works linked to Masaccio, Filippino Lippi and Andrea della Robbia appear within the collection.
Useful to know
Look at how furniture and devotional art relate to each room, not only at individual labels.
Pair the museum with Santa Croce nearby for two contrasting views of Renaissance interiors.
