East Block
East Block preserves early parliamentary offices associated with John A. Macdonald and Georges-Étienne Cartier. Its stonework and position complete the eastern side of Parliament Hill's historic composition.
Why go
The contrast between old offices and the broad ceremonial grounds helps place early Confederation politics in a physical setting. This side of the grounds brings the earliest parliamentary offices into focus, and its relationship to Centre Block helps explain the ensemble's growth after Confederation.
What to look for
Carved stone details mark the east side of the Hill.
