Alcazaba Qadima remains
The old fortress survives as scattered walls and gates in the upper Albaicín, not as a single castle to tour. It is best understood while walking the district.
These remains mark the early fortified core of Muslim Granada. Puerta Monaita and nearby wall sections give a physical outline to the former enclosure amid today's streets. The contrast between fragments of defense and the residential quarter around them is the point of the stop.
What to look for
Puerta Monaita preserves an entrance to the old walled enclosure.
Wall fragments trace the former fortified area through the upper Albaicín.
Useful to know
View the remains from public streets as part of an Albaicín walk; do not plan on entering a fortress building.
