Egyptian Museum: Egypt and Rome
The Egypt and Rome room follows Egyptian imagery into Roman culture. Choose it for the meeting of two traditions, especially after the museum’s displays on earlier Egyptian burial practice.
Why go
This fourth room changes the question from how Egyptians used objects to how Romans encountered and collected Egyptian forms. That shift is the reason to stop: similar-looking material can carry a different history once it enters a Roman context. Comparing it with the funerary room makes the change of setting and audience clearer.
What to look for
A statue of the Egyptian god Anubis is among Room IV’s named works.
Part of the room’s original nineteenth-century decoration survives.
Useful to know
Compare this room with the funerary section if visiting both.
