Bytown Museum
The Bytown Museum occupies a stone building beside the Ottawa Locks. Exhibits trace the canal works, early Bytown, and the city that later became Canada's capital.
The museum's modest scale is an advantage: the surrounding locks provide the physical setting for its stories. Look at the stonework outside, then use the displays to connect canal engineering with the settlement's growth. A walk along the lock flight afterward turns the historical account back into visible geography.
