Anatomical Theatre of the Archiginnasio
A carved wooden teaching room inside the Archiginnasio reveals how Bologna taught anatomy. It rewards a focused interior visit, with entry planned separately from a walk through the palace courtyard.
Look from the tiers of wooden benches toward the teaching space and the sculptural decoration above it. The room was designed in the 1630s for anatomy lessons, giving physical form to the university's medical tradition. Its compact scale contrasts with the grand coats of arms in the palace corridors.
What to look for
Wooden seating rises around the former anatomy teaching space.
Carved figures and ceiling decoration surround the room.
The adjoining Stabat Mater room may form part of the palace interior visit.
Useful to know
Plan this as a separate interior visit after exploring the Archiginnasio courtyard.
Check the palace's official booking information before setting out.
Ask the venue about the appropriate entrance if step-free access matters to you.
