Toledo Cathedral
Toledo Cathedral rewards a substantial visit: the Gothic space is impressive, but its strongest reason to enter is the concentration of art and liturgical objects inside.
The cathedral brings several strands of Toledo together in one building. Look beyond the scale of its five aisles to El Greco’s El Expolio in the sacristy, the elaborate Arfe monstrance in the Treasury, and the choir facing the main chapel. These are distinct stops, so allow time to move between them.
What to look for
El Greco’s El Expolio hangs in the main sacristy.
The Treasury holds the elaborate Arfe monstrance.
The choir and main chapel give different views of the cathedral’s ceremonial heart.
Useful to know
Plan this as a full interior visit rather than a quick look from the square.
Check the cathedral’s official timetable before visiting on a religious holiday.
